Raising the Bar: Patrick Kyle on AI, Martyn’s Law, and the Future of UK Security

We caught up with Patrick Kyle, Chief Commercial Officer at the BSIA, to get his take on where the security industry is heading. From Martyn’s Law to the rise of AI, Patrick shares what’s changing, and what must stay the same.

 1. What’s one shift you’ve noticed in the security industry over the past year?

There continues to be an acceleration in technological advances (especially around AI & Cyber). Whilst we should welcome change, we need to be mindful of how it is being deployed, particularly in the professional UK security industry and educate what this means to a wider society.

 2. There’s a lot of talk about AI and smart technology— how do you see this shaping the future of private security?

I have a real passion around the subject of AI and Cyber. Whilst some AI technology has been around for many years, it is only since late 2022 we’ve seen the brakes come off and deployment scale. My greatest concern with regards AI is governance, there needs to be more ownership and understanding in the boardroom and for end users. My hope is that the BSIA and its members can significantly contribute to the use and deployment of AI as we move forward in the UK.

3. With Martyn’s Law having received Royal Assent, what impact do you think it will have on the private security sector moving forward?

This is a very exciting time for the professional security sector, Figen and her team have created a monumental moment for not only the private security sector but all of  the security industry, an opportunity to come together and raise the bar further. Taking the professionalism of industry to new levels. Martyn’s Law receiving Royal Assent marks the next chapter of this journey.

4. What’s something you’re optimistic about for the industry in 2025?

There are many things to be optimistic about, Martyn’s Law, an opportunity for business licencing in the security sector. Guidance & governance around AI.

Hoping to win the BSIA UK Security Industry 2025 Golf Society title! Although that could be a tall order given Alex Booth’s current form.

5. What keeps you motivated in your role?

This industry is amazing, our purpose is to keep people, property and places safe. I genuinely believe that we all have a duty to deliver professional security solutions to the highest possible standards, preferably first time and ever single time they are called upon to the customers we serve.

This keeps me motivated.

6. Best bit of career advice you’ve ever received?

Simple, always do what you say you’re going to do!

7. What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I’ve been a grassroots FA licenced football coach for over a decade!

 8. If you weren’t working in security, what do you think you’d be doing?

I always wanted to be a DJ and still love music, so something in the music industry.

With Martyn’s Law setting new expectations and AI reshaping how we operate, Patrick’s perspective highlights the need for strong leadership, responsible innovation, and a united approach across the sector. As the landscape shifts, one thing remains clear: the future of security will be built on trust, professionalism, and shared purpose.
